Erin and Mark are from New York. And when they started to imagine their wedding, they knew they wanted someone to tell it with an honest, natural and editorial look. They wrote me from Manhattan, and a few months later, I was flying from Barcelona to document their wedding at the 3 West Club in New York, Manhattan.

There is always something special about a wedding in New York. The rhythm of the city, its architecture, that mix between classic and contemporary… But when it all happens in a historic building, in front of the city’s most iconic cathedral, with rain in the streets and live jazz to close the night, it’s hard to ask for anything else.
The building, with direct views of St. Patrick’s Cathedral was the scene of everything: the preparations, the first look, the ceremony, the dinner and the dance. A classic place, one of those that still retain that air of another era that survives in certain corners of New York.

The day dawned gray, and it did not stop raining. But far from subtracting, the rain added: a soft light, streets full of reflections, muted colors… and an almost cinematographic atmosphere.

The ceremony was intimate. They exchanged vows written by themselves, read calmly, without artifice. Then came the toasts, speeches and a sober dinner in the main hall. They closed the evening with a live saxophonist, who set the rhythm for the first dance and accompanied the last drinks.

Behind the coordination was Love with Iacopo, who knew how to give shape to a wedding with an old New York feel, with attention to every detail.

Although most of the weddings I photograph take place in the Mediterranean -Barcelona, Costa Brava, Mallorca, South of France or Italy-, every now and then the opportunity arises to travel further afield. Whether in New York or in a farmhouse in the Empordà, what interests me remains the same: to approach it honestly, without noise, and let the images speak for themselves.
